The Project
This was my third time designing on behalf of Razzamataz Sutton Coldfield. However, this was the most complex design, to make it 'One To Remember', pun intended. Like before, there were four separate shows, individual to one another. This posed its challenges. All elements were completely pre-programmed with 3d visualisation which was key in creating the dynamic design Razzamataz demands. In addition, the lighting rig was scaled up considerably compared to the prior shows, with a vast array of moving lights, blinder effects, dynamic side light and ground packages. A big thanks to Jasper(SM) and James(LX) for such a smooth fit-up process.
The Production
'One To Remember' was a showcase presenting a vast array of dance, musicals, acting, and singing; an all-around fantastic show for all ages. Never before seen dance pieces which heavily incorporate a dynamic lighting design as part of the choreography and musicals such as Matilda and Everyone's Talking About Jamie which relied on the lighting design to bring the correct energy and scale, usually attributed to full-scale musicals. A large element of this was based on the concept of creating bodies of light mid-air, to ensure the space did not seem vacant due to the lack of set elements.
Making One To Remember, truly,
ONE TO REMEMBER!
Working on this production for this company was, as always, a deeply enjoyable challenge with a fast-paced time frame to complete all aspects of all four shows ready for the public.
The use of a wide variety of moving lights, each suited to its purpose, was key in allowing maximum flexibility in the complex design which needed to deliver dynamic light shows, settle moments and emotional intensity where needed. Moving lights such as Martin Mac Viper Performance and an army of Chauvet Professional units, alongside VariLite fixtures for multiple types, all have unique advantages which I exploited to my advantage when designing these shows.
