Recycle - Disposable Lives?
Prod LX, Programmer and LD.
What is
Recycle - Disposable Lives?
A physical theatre performance with a deep and very real, hard-hitting message.
Touching on real-world issues such as homelessness, PTSD and other dark stories from past news reports, such as a baby found at a recycling plant who sadly passed.
A very tasteful yet dramatic production.
My Role
For this production, I fulfilled multiple roles, including Production LX, Lighting Programmer, and LD. During the show's run, I also acted as an SM calling sound (this was because the sound was operated by an inexperienced volunteer).
One of my key responsibilities involved turning the stunning Mosaic Church Coventry into a suitable theatrical space.
I took control of the technical elements while integrating a lighting design that was created quickly under tight time restraints.
From Church to Theatre
On a tight budget.
A key element of my role was to turn the Mosaic Church in the centre of Coventry into a suitable theatre space from a lighting perspective using a tight budget. This posed particular issues at first as the space had no IWB/rigging bars of any kind and relying on too many rigging/stands from the ground had to be limited due to the horse-shoe-shaped gallery. As such, various tripods, ground positions and temporary trussing were used to convert the church into a usable theatre space.
Using whats best.
To help bring the theatre to this church building, the production used a variety of conventional, led fixtures and moving lights to create a rig as specific as possible to the show while also being as versatile as possible to make the programming session as fluid as possible. This was because time was against us, but also the show was programmed from scratch in the space during tech rehearsals etc.
However, the creative lighting for the production ended up being a success, in part due to its heavy reliance on side light, moving lights (to enable versatility) and the use of a variety of conventionals to create the raw tungsten tones, pushing through the harsh and often cold LED units used as part of the rig.
"Thank you Charlie soo much for your precious understanding of how to give even more life into the piece with your Beauty- FULL understanding of managing the Lighting Design. ♥ "
