YARDEN DAY AND NIGHT PARTY

LIGHTING DESIGNER AND LX TECH

EVENT DESCRIPTION

'Yarden Day and Night Party' was an event organised by 'ReadyMealSound' and held at the wonderful 'Sheaf Street' in Leeds. This was a long running event, feeding into the early hours with multiple DJs exciting the crowd with UK garage magic in an outdoor and indoor space. This was the second time I worked with this client on an event such as this, requiring both a timed OSC opening lighting display and hours and hours of live busking throughout the night.

PROJECT

The project in itself required much planning on my part, as the concept for the event went through various stages to achieve the final effect. Three large 4K screens were used throughout the evening with custom graphics throughout the night.

However, not only this, as said above, a custom-timed OSC opening was part of the project. This was a multi-cue playback sequence to correlate with both AV and audio respectively to create an 'urban' almost 'boot up' style sequence.

THE DESIGN

The design of the lighting for this event was constantly in a state of development. The show file played a key role in this as the house rig was not known to me or the company until we would arrive. The only thing we could be sure of was the ground package designed by myself for the stage area around the booth. The show file was developed in a manner to allow maximum flexibility for busking of fixtures only recently patched but also to allow newly added fixtures to be incorporated into palettes and the playback bootup sequence alike. I adore busking for these events and was a great project to work on.

See below the early testing phase of the opening sequence. Please bare in mind this does not show the final sequence and does not include the house lx and only includes two of the moving head fixtures used. 👇

OPENING SEQUENCE TESTING AT MY STUDIO

Here is a clip of the early stages of programming the opening sequence to correlate with the AV behind the DJ.
Note this was a test of the timing; thus, only a tiny handful of the full ground package is used in this video.
AV for this event was designed and provided by Peter Collier.
